Capitol Policeman John Cale has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer. Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country.
Emily loves everything about the White House, it’s her passion and she knows all the details about it as if she was a professional tour guide conducting tours of the White House. Because of this, John lies about the job interview. He tells his daughter he got the job. She immediately pleads for him to take her to the White House. He just can’t refuse so that is how they end up in the White House, on a tour, at the exact time of the terrorist attack. The terrorists first blow up the Capital Dome. This triggers the assault on the White House.
When the terrorists hit the White House, John and his daughter are separated, because she is using the bathroom. The terrorists take as hostages, all the people on the White House tour, including John. John’s daughter evades captures and while she escapes detection, her father also escapes from the terrorists and tries desperately to find a way to re-unite with his daughter and protect her from harm.
The President is whisked away to a secure room below the White House only to discover, upon reaching safety, that his head of security, Walker (played by James Wood), is part of the plot. Walker kills all the others that are supposed to protect the President. Walker demands a ransom but it is only a ploy. What he really wants is to go out in a psychotic blaze of glory by bringing world war from launching nuclear bombs on the Middle East. Walker has nothing to lose, since he knows he has a terminal illness, and he wants revenge for his son’s death as part of special forces.
With everything at stake, John, the guy that was not qualified for the Secret Service job, is the only one in position to do anything about it.
